A Worthy Cause & an Inspiring Bandsman

Not only this this a great opportunity to hear some fantastic music, brilliantly arranged and performed by two brass bands, this concert also provides the chance to support an incredible charity who supported an amazing bandsman, Mark Blakeson, who will be the guest of honour at the concert.

Mark's Story

Mark is the Repiano cornet player for the Golborne Band, who sadly collapsed a few days before the North West Area this year and suffered from seizures that resulted in him being admitted to hospital. After a number of tests and scans he was discharged on the Friday and although unable to play, accompanied the band at the Area, where they gained a third place and an invitation to the National Finals. When he returned to hospital, Mark was diagnosed with a brain tumour and was scheduled for surgery. He has since had 90% of the tumour removed and is now waiting to start chemo therapy.

Incredibly, throughout this journey, Mark hasn't missed a single rehearsal, even helping the band out on percussion on the day he was discharged, following his surgery! As if he hadn't already shown incredible dedication to his band, whilst facing the road to recovery and all the treatment that involves, he is also actively fundraising to help get Golborne to the national finals; taking part in a sponsored walk with other members of the band.

Mark will be the guest of honour at this concert with donations going directly to The Brain Tumour Charity, an organisation that, understandably, means a great deal to him.
