Open Call For Adjudicators at the 2025 National Youth Brass Band Championships

Are you passionate about supporting youth music and looking to step into the adjudicator's box? Well, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Brass Bands England (BBE) is now accepting applications for adjudicator positions at the 2025 National Youth Brass Band Championships. After two years of successful open calls, BBE is once again inviting candidates from all backgrounds and experiences to apply for this unique opportunity.


There's no doubt that brass band adjudication is in need of improved diversity, so if you have been interested in taking up the pen and becoming a brass band adjudicator, but feel you don't have enough experience - this is a great place to start.


What Will Your Role as an Adjudicator Include?

As an adjudicator for the 2025 Youth Brass Band Championships, you will play a vital role in judging and providing constructive feedback to the young brass band musicians taking part in the event. There are six adjudicator positions available and each will share responsibilities across three competition categories:

  • Showcase Section

  • Yamaha Performance Section

  • Championship Section


This is a chance to help shape the next generation of brass band talent in Britain, whilst promoting educational growth and musical excellence.


Who Should Apply for an Adjudicator Role?

BBE is encouraging applications from all individuals who meet the person specifications regardless of prior experience with brass band adjudication. The person specifications are as follows:

  • Competent musicianship, including the ability to read and understand brass band scores

  • Good judgement, including the ability to rank and categorise performances appropriately

  • The ability to use IT in the adjudication process (Google Docs) and handle scores in a digital format (provided in advance). It is compulsory to use the digital system provided in adjudicating this event

  • Excellent communication skills

  • The ability to enthuse and inspire young people

  • Experience working with young people

  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the brass banding sector (desirable)

  • Good personal presentation


This open call is part of BBE's ongoing commitment to inclusion, diversity, equality and access within the brass band community. For this role, the emphasis is on education, communication and a genuine passion for supporting young musicians.
