Tredegar Band to play at 10th Anniversary Screening of 'Pride'

Tredegar to Join Forces with Orchestra and Choir for 'Pride' Anniversary

Swansea Arena is set to host a special 10th anniversary screening of the iconic film "Pride," featuring a live orchestra, local choirs and Tredegar Brass Band. This event marks the 10th anniversary of the film and the 40th anniversary of the 1984-85 Miner’s Strike.

About the Film

Set in the summer of 1984, "Pride" tells the true story of gay and lesbian activists who supported striking miners, forming an unexpected and powerful alliance.

Premiering at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, "Pride" received a standing ovation and won the 'Queer Palm' award, garnering widespread critical acclaim. In 2015, it was nominated for a Golden Globe for 'Best Motion Picture' and won a BAFTA for 'Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer.' The film also secured British Independent Film Awards for Imelda Staunton and Andrew Scott, and was named 'Best British Independent Film' and the London Critics' 'Film of the Year.'

Just the Sound

In 2013, following the Tredegar Band's win at the British Open, the film's composer, Christopher Nightingale, approached the band to be involved in the soundtrack. Christopher was taken to the incredible sound the band made (who wouldn't be?) and later said that he had found 'just what he was looking for'.

The band went on to record a significant proportion of the film's soundtrack and also featured in a number of cameo performances throughout the film.

No other brass band can do what Tredegar can do. Their musical versatility is incredible. I’ve never worked with a group of musicians with such passion, drive and commitment to excel and also with an insatiable appetite to innovative and encompass new ideas. They are simply fantastic.

Celebrating 10 Years of 'Pride'

The Alternative Orchestra, along with the Tredegar Brass Band and local choirs, will perform Christopher Nightingale’s award-winning score. This collaboration promises a stirring rendition of the Welsh and 80’s inspired music that underscores the film’s narrative.
